Three figures sit next to each other on a bench, displaying the typical characteristics of smartphone users. Their heads are bent, fingers typing and swiping, and their faces lit up by their phone screens. While their bodies are physically present, their minds are elsewhere.
Our smartphones are with us all the time – in bed, on the train, even in our most personal places. They are an extension of our contact with others. As a result, we sometimes focus more on a virtual reality than on one another, something the artist makes painfully clear.
Designed by British artist Gali May Lucas and executed by Berlin-based sculptor Karoline Hinz, the artwork invites you to take a seat between the figures to experience how our obsession with technology affects others.
How do you feel?
